What is "Local Search"?
Local Search is used by potential customers who are geographically close to a business. For example, if you needed a plumber to fix a leaky faucet, you might use Local Search in Google, Bing or Yahoo to find one.
In this context, search can be divided roughly into two types: Local and Global.
A useful rule-of-thumb definition is: If your customers are within driving distance of your business, the search is local. If your customers are beyond driving distance, the search is global.
You need Local Search to work for you if you provide services like plumbing, pest control, pizza delivery, restaurant, cafe, as well as services ranging from banking to chiropractic.
To add your business to local search:
- In Google, create a GooglePlus page here, and complete all entries, including the telephone number and physicall address or your company.
- In Bing, start here at Bing Local Places.
- In Yahoo, start here by seeing if your business is listed. If it is, claim it, and make sure the details are correct.
